Click this item to select Focus mode. When Focus mode is active cross-reference and Smart Reference™ actions will open the selected content in the secondary panel (keeping the focus on the content in the primary panel).

Save and Restore Desktop

The save-and-restore desktop feature enables you to save your 'study' so that you can come back to that study, exactly as you left it, some other time. By 'study' we mean every tabbed window that you currently have open on the desktop, to exactly the place where each one is opened.

Tips

•You can use the Desktop Nav Panel to set desktop preferences, etc.

oDouble click on a saved desktop to open.

oCheck Save desktop on exit if you would like OneTouch® to remember the desktop you had open when you closed OneTouch.

oCheck Restore default on startup if you would like OneTouch to automatically open the default desktop when you start OneTouch®.

oCheck Use blank home desktop if you would like OneTouch® to leave OneTouch® desktop empty when no tabs are open. If unchecked, the informational home desktop is shown.

Important: The save-and-restore desktop feature is "additive" in nature. In other words, restoring a desktop will always add the contents of the saved desktop file to whatever is currently open on your desktop. So, if you desktop was empty, you would see only the contents of the saved desktop file. However, if you had one or more windows currently open, you would continue to see those windows plus whatever was contained in the saved desktop file.

By defaultOneTouch is set up to automatically save your desktop each time you exit. But you can turn that option off, or even extend it to have it automatically load where you last left off each time OneTouch® starts.

There are two options settings available for this feature, both located under Options | Preferences | Save/Restore Desktop. Auto Save determines whether the desktop is automatically saved (or not) each time you exit OneTouch®. Likewise, Auto Restore determines whether the desktop is automatically loaded each time you exit OneTouch®. In each case, OneTouch® uses a default file named, "Return to where you last exited."

Regardless of the options settings, you can save or load a desktop at any time, and even create other named desktop files, using the File menu. There are four Save/Restore desktop items located on the File menu. Use Save Desktop at any time to save your current study to the file, "Return to where you last exited." Likewise, use Restore Desktop at any time to load the current contents of the "Return to where you last exited" file.

The next two File menu items let you work with saved desktop files that you have named. To save the current desktop under a file name other than "Return to where you last exited", use the Save desktop to file… menu item. This option will prompt you to provide a new file name, or you can use an existing file name and overwrite that file. Use the Restore desktop from file… to select from all available saved desktops.
