<BIBLE>
The <BIBLE> tag is used to indicate an embedded Bible reference. There are three forms of the <BIBLE> tag, to accurately reflect the common use of embedded Bible references in printed texts.
The first form uses and displays a complete Bible reference. It would be tagged as:
...as Christ stated in the Beatitudes (<BIBLE:Matthew 5:2-12>)...
and would be displayed as:
...as Christ stated in the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:2-12)...
The second form also uses a complete Bible reference, but only displays the chapter and verse. It would be tagged as:
As a literary form, the beatitude is also found often in the Old Testament, especially in the Psalms (<BIBLE/CHAPTER_VERSE:Psalms 1:1; Psalms 34:8; Psalms 65:4; Psalms 128:1>), and often in the New Testament...
and would be displayed as:
As a literary form, the beatitude is also found often in the Old Testament, especially in the Psalms (1:1; 34:8; 65:4; 128:1), and often in the New Testament...
Notice that a single Bible tag may contain multiple Bible references, all of which will be displayed in the same manner--in this case, omitting the book name while displaying the chapter and verse.
The third form also uses a complete Bible reference, but only displays the verse number. It would be tagged as:
Some scholars speak of seven, nine, or ten beatitudes, but the number appears to be eight (verses <BIBLE/VERSE_ONLY:Matthew 5:10-12> of Matthew 5 being one beatitude).
and would be displayed as:
.Some scholars speak of seven, nine, or ten beatitudes, but the number appears to be eight (verses 10-12 of Matthew 5 being one beatitude).
A Bible reference will be visually distinguished (green with a dashed underline, by default) so that it is immediately recognizable as a clickable, embedded reference.
