AVG anti-virus
Under certain conditions, product downloads from the Biblesoft web site will show the following message if you have AVG anti-virus software:
Trojan horse Downloader.Generic8.XWA.dropper detected on open.
Status Update on May 6, 2009 - AVG has agreed that the file in question is *not* a virus/trojan. AVG has revised its virus definitions so that the above message will stop for Biblesoft files. If you still get the message, update your AVG definitions, then try to do the Biblesoft download again.
Instructions before May 6, 2009 - This message is a false alarm. There is nothing wrong with the download in question, but AVG won't let you proceed. (By the way, the file that AVG is objecting to has been distributed for over a year, yet AVG has just started objecting in the past month or so. So far, we haven't heard of objections by any other anti-virus programs.) So here is what you need to do to turn OFF your virus scanning just long enough to do the download.
- In the taskbar, next to the time, right-click on the AVG icon (when your mouse is over the correct icon, "AVG Anti-Virus" may pop up)
- Click on Open AVG User Interface
- The main AVG window opens
- At the top of the screen, click on Tools > Advanced settings...
- Advanced AVG Settings opens
- In the left-hand panel, click on the line that says "Resident Shield"
- The right-hand panel changes to Resident Shield Settings
- UNcheck "Enable Resident Shield"
- Click Apply
- (If you have Vista, you might get the message "A program needs your permission to continue" at this point, and you can click Continue)
- Click OK
- The main AVG window re-appears, and Resident Shield shows as disabled
- Close AVG
- ----- do your Biblesoft product downloads/installs or disc installs now -------
- Now we'll turn the scanning back on:
- In the taskbar, right-click on the AVG icon
- Click on Open AVG User Interface
- The main AVG window opens
- At the top of the screen, click on Tools > Advanced settings...
- Advanced AVG Settings opens
- In the left-hand panel, click on the line that says "Resident Shield"
- The right-hand panel changes to Resident Shield Settings
- Put a checkmark on "Enable Resident Shield"
- Click Apply
- (If you have Vista, you might get the message "A program needs your permission to continue" at this point, and you can click Continue)
- Click OK
- The main AVG window re-appears, and Resident Shield shows as Active
- Close AVG
