User Testimonials

"Just a word to praise your efforts on the new version 5.

It is a tremendous improvement over previous versions, especially in regard to language use.

I have three other bible software programs which I use, yours is head and shoulders above the others.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!"

Is PC Study Bible (any version) Compatible with Windows 7? (KB1047)

Summary - In general, Windows 7 has the same issues for PC Study Bible as Windows Vista.  Find your version below to determine how or if it will run on Windows 7 and to view the associated issues.
Version 5 is the only version under ongoing development so it is the only version that might be modified to become more and more compatible with Windows 7.  As we discover issues unique to Windows 7, we will note them below, and as we learn more, we will update this page, so feel free to bookmark it.  Caution: if you are upgrading the same computer from an older Windows version (where you had PC Study Bible installed) to Windows 7, be sure to give yourself plenty of time because you may need to reinstall PC Study Bible as a consequence of what the Windows 7 upgrade process does.  This is not a weakness of PC Study Bible, but rather a characteristic of the Windows 7 upgrade.

Does it matter if I have 64-bit Windows 7? - The issues are the same whether you have 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7, except for Version 2 of PC Study Bible (as noted in the Version 2 section below.)  In other words, as long as you have Version 3 or later of PC Study Bible, PC Study Bible works the same whether your Windows 7 is 32-bit or 64-bit.

Version 5
If your internet connection is faster than dial-up (e.g. DSL or broadband), click here to install Version 5.0C (or later) via download. At about 50 Megabytes, the download is too large to be practical for a dial-up connection.

Until you can install Version 5.0C (or later), which is Windows 7-compatible, the following instructions may allow you to install and run Version 5 under Windows 7:

  1. Windows 7 may not start the Autorun program which controls the installation process. You will need to open Windows Explorer or click Start > Computer to get to the main folder on the CD and double-click the Setup program to start the install.  The instructions below assume that PC Study Bible 5 has already been installed.

  2. Once PC Study Bible 5 is installed, right-click on the desktop shortcut to PC Study Bible 5 and then left-click on Open File Location.

  3. The Program folder opens in a window, with Joshua highlighted in the lower left of the window.

  4. Right-click on Joshua and left-click on Properties.

  5. The Properties window opens.

  6. Left-click on the Compatibility tab.

  7. In the Settings section, put a checkmark on Disable Desktop Composition.

  8. Further down, put a checkmark on Run this program as an administratorOn some systems, this option will be greyed out so you can't checkmark it, and that's ok.

  9. Left-click on Apply.

  10. Left-click on OK.

  11. Close all open windows.  Now PC Study Bible should run fine.

Known Issues for Version 5 on Windows 7

  • The color scheme has been changed to Windows 7 Basic
This message, which appears as you open PC Study Bible, indicates that PC Study Bible does not support the Aero interface in Windows 7.  It may be a year or more before the Aero interface is supported.
To stop this message - In this message you might see smaller letters talking about "more information".  Click there.  You will see several paragraphs of text.  Put a checkmark in the box to stop showing this message. Close that window.  Now, when PC Study Bible opens or closes, you'll see a "black flash" on the screen, but no more message about the color scheme.

  • An unidentified program wants to access your computer. This message, which appears as you open PC Study Bible,  is harmless. Click Allow or Continue. To stop this message, turn off Windows 7's User Account Control feature.

  • Your system has little free disk space.  PC Study Bible may run slowly or not at all.  Do you wish to continue?
This message is harmless (and untrue).  Just click Yes and continue.  PC Study Bible will work fine.  This message may occur for releases before 5.0C. To stop this message, click here to order the 5.0F (or later) update on disc. (The update from a disc is more thorough than the update from a download, because the disc is not constrained by the size limitations of a download.)

  • User Account Control
User Account Control is a Windows 7 feature which interferes with several parts of PC Study Bible.  For best results, turn off User Account Control, using KB_957.

  • The changes I make under Desktop Options don't take effect.
    See KB_942.

  • Microsoft Visual Basic: Run-time error (429) ActiveX component can’t create object.
The macros which link PC Study Bible to Microsoft Word may give this error message.  See KB_637.

  • I am missing buttons (e.g. Concordance, Commentary, Greek/Hebrew, etc.) from the Main Toolbar at the top of PC Study Bible.
Turn off User Account Control, as described above.

Version 4
The following instructions may allow you to install and run Version 4 under Windows 7. If these steps do not help your Version 4 to run in your flavor of Windows Windows 7, your next step is to upgrade to Version 5 of PC Study Bible.  Biblesoft will not be building a newer release of Version 4 that is more compatible with Windows 7.

  1. Windows 7 may not start the Autorun program which controls the installation process. You will need to open Windows Explorer or click Start > Computer to get to the main folder on the CD and double-click the Setup program to start the install.  The instructions below assume that PC Study Bible 4 has already been installed.

  2. Once PC Study Bible 4 is installed, right-click on the desktop shortcut to PC Study Bible 4 and then left-click on Open File Location.

If you open a reference work (e.g. a Bible) without this checkmarked, the navigation panel down the left side of the screen will be blank.

  8. Further down, put a checkmark on Run this program as an administratorOn some systems, this option will be greyed out so you can't checkmark it, and that's ok.

  9. Left-click on Apply.

  10. Left-click on OK.

  11. Close all open windows.

  12. Open PC Study Bible. If it works, click on Help > About and note the version shown there, e.g. 4.2G, then close it, and continue with these instructions.
  13. If you don't have Version 4.3C yet, click here, then choose Version 4.3C Program Update. Download and install this update.

  14. Because Internet Explorer 7 (or later) is built into Windows 7, click here, then choose Internet Explorer 7 Compatibility Patch. Download and install this patch, only if you have version 4.3C installed.

  15. Now you can run PC Study Bible.

Known Issues for Version 4 on Windows 7

This message, which appears as you open PC Study Bible, indicates that PC Study Bible does not support the Aero interface in Windows 7.  It may be a year or more before the Aero interface is supported, and then only in Version 5, not in prior versions.

As a result, the Help and ReadMe files give an error message.  There is no solution to this in Version 4.

  • Microsoft Visual Basic: Run-time error (429) ActiveX component can’t create object.
The macros which link PC Study Bible to Microsoft Word may give this error message.  See KB_637.
