User Testimonials

"Just a word to praise your efforts on the new version 5.

It is a tremendous improvement over previous versions, especially in regard to language use.

I have three other bible software programs which I use, yours is head and shoulders above the others.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!"

Version 5 Release Notes (all program releases) (KB889)

This article contains release notes specific to a program version/release, rather than specific to a disc.  For example, issues which affect version 5.0A, whether on the Advanced Reference Library Update disc, or on the Complete Reference Library Update disc, will be listed here.  (The most recent version/release is at the top.)

All Versions

  • The Apocrypha. The Interlinear Bible does not include the Apocrypha.  To view the Apocrypha, use a Bible translation which includes the Apocrypha, e.g. the King James Version, Revised Standard Version, New Revised Standard Version, Good News Translation, Douay-Rheims, Latin Vulgate, or Septuagint (LXX).  If you want to pick an Apocryphal book from the Book dropdown list, then in the Verse Reference dialog where you enter a Book/Chapter/Verse (e.g. John 3:16), you'll need to put a checkmark on Display Extra-Canonical Books in Drop Down List.

  • Some Greek or Hebrew words in the Interlinear will not show a corresponding English word.  PC Study Bible's Interlinear is built on the King James Version.  For some words and phrases in specific verses, the King James has no text, so no text displays in the Interlinear
  • Verse numbering in the Douay-Rheims translation. The Douay-Rheims uses the Vulgate chapter/verse numbering, which in turn derives from the Greek Version (Septuagint). This occasionally differs from the chapter/verse numbering used in the Hebrew Bible. This is particularly the case in the Psalms, where the numbering is offset between Psalms 10 and 147. Most English versions retain the Hebrew numbering of the Psalms, but the Douay-Rheims follows the Vulgate. The versing is mapped in PC Study Bible, so if a user is in Ps. 119 in the NIV for example, and switches to the Douay-Rheims, it will correctly appear as Ps. 118.
  • Version 5.1

Version 5.1 corrects the following problems

  • Version 5.1 corrects no problems. The only change from 5.0F to 5.1 is the Greek Morphological Search (GMS) feature. For this reason, Version 5.1 is available only in the NA27 GMS add-on disc. There are no update downloads or discs which deliver Version 5.1 without the GMS.
  • Known Issues in Version 5.1

  • See the Release Notes for the NA27 Greek Morphological Search add-on.

  • Version 5.0F

Version 5.0F corrects the following problems

  • Very large sets of reference works are now supported. Previous releases could give error messages if you owned most of what Biblesoft has published.
  • Dual monitors (i.e. having two separate computer screens) are now supported.  Previous releases would display properly only in the primary monitor of a multi-monitor system.

  • Known Issues in Version 5.0F

  • installing C:\Program Files\Biblesoft\...\Refworks\B00215JCoffman.JSR failed
Problem: Installing the 5.0F Update Download over certain file versions will give this error message as PC Study Bible opens.
Solution 1: If you have the disc Coffman Commentary Series (CCS 4+5), close PC Study Bible, then install this disc on top of what you have now; in other words, don't uninstall anything first.
Solution 2: Order the 5.0F Update on disc (CD or DVD).
Solution 3: Re-install a 5.0E Update with Revised Data disc on top of what you have now; in other words, don't uninstall anything first.
  • installing C:\Program Files\Biblesoft\...\Refworks\B000357LABNotes.JSR failed
Problem: Installing the 5.0F Update Download over certain file versions will give this error message as PC Study Bible opens.
Solution 1: If you have the disc Life Application Bible Study Notes (LABSN 4+5), close PC Study Bible, then install this disc on top of what you have now; in other words, don't uninstall anything first.
Solution 2: Order the 5.0F Update on disc (CD or DVD).
Solution 3: Re-install a 5.0D or 5.0E Update with Revised Data disc on top of what you have now; in other words, don't uninstall anything first.
  • installing C:\Program Files\Biblesoft\...\Refworks\RyrieNAS-snb00356.JSR failed
Problem: Installing the 5.0F Update Download over certain file versions will give this error message as PC Study Bible opens.

  • Set Bible to Current Context - PC Study Bible will freeze
The following is an example of this problem, but not the only way it can appear.
Open the Jamieson, Fausset & Brown Commentary to Daniel 6:26
Click on Set Bible to Current Context  to open a Bible in the right-hand panel to Dan 6:26.
Click in the left-hand panel to move the focus back to Jamieson, Fausset & Brown Commentary.
Use mouse scroll wheel to move down to Dan 7:1.
Click on Set Bible to Current Context
Result: PC Study Bible hangs up with an hourglass showing.  Text at the bottom of both panels repeats in the lower half of each panel.  The problem seems to be specific to this pattern of steps; if you add steps or remove steps, there is no problem, e.g. leave out the mouse wheel step and it works fine.

    Version 5.0E

Version 5.0E corrects the following problems:

  • Concordance and Global searches were returning incomplete results or were reporting "no hits" when results should be reported.

    Version 5.0D

Version 5.0D corrects the following problems:

  • Getting the error message: "Selection spans more than 23890 words ...." when copying and pasting.
This bug prevented you from copying and pasting more than a few words at a time.

  • The GetBibleRef macro for fetching verses from your default Bible into Microsoft Word now supports the following formats for a verse reference:
    John 3:16
    John 3 16   {this format lost its support for a while, but now it is supported again}
    John 3.16

    Known Issues in Version 5.0D:

  • The GetBibleRef macro in Microsoft Word has lost the ability to retrieve an entire chapter.  For example, typing "John 3" {without the quotation marks}, then clicking the macro button now retrieves only John 3:1.  Workaround: type a range, including the next chapter number, e.g. enter "John 3-4" - that will retrieve all verses in chapter 3 plus the first verse of chapter 4.

  • The information you copied exceeds the size limit for pasting onto the Word Processor. Try reducing the size of your selection, and then copy and paste again.
This message appears when you try to paste into the Microsoft Works word processor.  The solution is to uncheck the Options > Preferences > Clipboard > Provide RTF option.

  • The Bible Reading Plan has problems after installing the 5.0D Update.  As we learn more about this problem and how to fix it, we will update this article.
-- Try rebuilding the Reading Plan from scratch.
-- If you see a Verse Reference window when you start the Bible Reading Plan, be sure to click OK not Cancel.

  • During Desktop Restore, you get the error message [You have a different version of "My Personal Notes" installed.]  This is a bug.  To eliminate this error message, add a Personal Note to any Bible verse:
    1. Open a Bible, e.g. to Genesis 1:1.
    2. Click on the "paper clip" button at the bottom of the screen.
    3. The My Personal Notes panel opens.
    4. Click on the "paper clip plus" button in that panel.
    5. Verse Reference dialog appears, showing Gen 1:1.  (And it may say "No data for this reference!" at the bottom.)
    6. Click OK.
    7. The cursor appears inside the My Personal Notes panel.
    8. Type something, e.g. "Glory to God!", without the quotation marks.
    9. Click on the "Save changes and exit editing mode" button at the bottom.  (Looks like a floppy disc with an arrow above it.)
    10. Click on the "X" in the top right of the My Personal Notes panel to close it.
    11. Now you see the full Bible passage, and there may be a paper clip before the Bible Book name, e.g. "Genesis".
    12. Close PC Study Bible.
    13. Open PC Study Bible again.  The error message should not appear.

  • Concordance searches return incomplete results.  For example, searching for "ye did eat" in the KJV returns no results.  It should report Zec 7:6 and Jn 6:26.  This bug is fixed in the version 5.0E download (which was posted 8/30/07).

  • Some headings, for the Concordance Search results, for example, are too small to read.  For a solution, see KB986

    Version 5.0C

Q: Why have there been several different "Post Dates" for the 5.0C Download on your website?
A: Earllier postings of the 5.0C Download had trouble detecting that Version 5 had been installed on some computers, so it would incorrectly report that Version 5 had not been detected. For post dates prior to 05.01.07, the content of the 5.0C downloads is the same; only the installation program has changed. Beginning with the 05.01.07 post date, the 5.0C download includes an update to the King James Version, in order to fix some concordance search problems.  If you have already successfully installed an older Post Date of the 5.0C Download and you do not use the King James Version, you do not need to download a newer posting of 5.0C.

Version 5.0C corrects the following problems:

  • Program runs under the Vista operating system without giving any error messages during startup.

  • GetBibleRef macro no longer produces a duplicate verse number when the text is pasted into Word.

  • Restoring a saved desktop with an Interlinear window now works correctly.

  • Verse Selection Dialog corrected in Bibles and Commentaries.

  • Problems accessing single-chapter books are fixed (Obadiah, Jude).

  • Quick Links to Vine's are opening correct articles

  • Corrected proper verse matching when switching from a Septuagint Bible to an English Bible.

  • When a Bible displays a reference from a section of the Apocrypha, the Bible NavPanel now correctly shows which other Bibles contain that passage.

  • Apocryphal texts were not appearing correctly in the Verse Selection Dialog.

  • References to verses in the Septuagint are now working correctly.

  • Problems in displaying Septuagint text were corrected.

    Issues in Version 5.0C:

  • Can't find "God" in the KJV
A Concordance search for "God" in the King James Version gives very few results.  The solution is to download a version 5.0C with a Post Date of 05.01.07 or later.

    Version 5.0B-2

There are two ways to determine if you have this version:

  • Open PC Study Bible
Click on Help > About > System Information
It will say "5.0B-13" on this screen if you have program version 5.0B-2.

  • Start the install (setup).  The top of the screen will mention "5.0B-2".  (Within the first few install screens you'll then have an opportunity to click Cancel.)

    Version 5.0B

    Version 5.0A

    Version 5.0

  • Repeating Verses
WHEN IT HAPPENS – open the NIV or NCV to certain verses: Luke 7:6-10 NIV, 1 Kings 18:2, or any other verse which contains a paragraph break
    WHEN STARTED – version 5.0
    STATUS – not fixed in 5.0A, 5.0B
    WORKAROUNDS– (1) click on any other Bible translation in the nav panel, to switch to that translation, then click on nav panel to return to the NIV (or whatever translation was showing the problem) (2) Change all Bibles to show one verse per paragraph: click on Options > Preferences > Advanced > 2.1 Compatibility – put a checkmark on “One verse per paragraph” – click Save. {E0070}
